Students to National Conference Campaign
2017 Students to National Conference Campaign
Wisconsin medical students are learning about and solidifying their interest in family medicine by attending the AAFP National Conference for Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students. This annual event provides them opportunities to attend workshops and procedure sessions, connect with hundreds of family medicine residencies and employers, and other organizations, learn leadership development skills and network with students, residents and physicians who have common interests. Through generous donors like you, we've sent as many as 50 students to Kansas City and are looking to do that again in 2017!
Donations for the 2017 Send a Student to the National Conference are open.
2016 National Conference Recap
The AAFP's 2016 National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students set record-breaking numbers with 4,565 people attending the July 28 - July 30 event, including 1,349 medical students and 1,210 residents. The WAFP-Foundation sent 47 students, therefore one out of every three and a half students was from Wisconsin. A big "thank you" to donors of the WAFP-Foundation for making this possible!
The conference agenda was filled with many activities in which to participate. WAFP student attendees prepared for the event by attending a pre-conference orientation webinar conducted by the WAFP. The orientation included an overview of the National Conference and major opportunities offered to students, along with tips on organizing schedules to make the most of experiences and information presented. In addition, the WAFP provided insight into opportunities for involvement and leadership within the WAFP.
The three-day National Conference offered workshops, social and networking events, an expo featuring representatives from hundreds of family medicine residencies and the resident and student congresses.
Attendees could participate in workshops related to career planning, clinical skills, health policy, leadership development, practice management and research.
After an energizing day at the conference, the WAFP hosted a member reception
at the Hotel Phillips in Kansas City to socialize, network and celebrate WAFP students and residents at National Conference.
WAFP is looking forward to next year's National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students - learn how you can help send a student to this very worthwhile event.
