Students to National Conference Campaign

2018 Students to National Conference Campaign

Wisconsin medical students are learning about and solidifying their interest in family medicine by attending the AAFP National Conference for Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students. This annual event provides them opportunities to attend workshops and procedure sessions, connect with hundreds of family medicine residencies and employers, and other organizations, learn leadership development skills and network with students, residents and physicians who have common interests. Through generous donors like you, we've sent as many as 50 students to Kansas City and are looking to do that again in 2018!

Donations for the 2018 Send a Student to the National Conference are open.

2017 National Conference Recap

The AAFP's 2017 NCFMRMS set record-breaking numbers with 5,100 people attending the July 27 - July 29 event, including 1,691 medical students and 1,147 residents. The WAFP-Foundation sent 49 students, all together 65 students from Wisconsin attended. A big "thank you" to the donors of the WAFP-Foundation for making this possible!

The three-day National Conference offered workshops, social and networking events, an expo featuring representatives from hundreds of family medicine residencies and the resident and student congresses.

Attendees could participate in workshops related to career planning, clinical skills, health policy, leadership development, practice management and research.

After an energizing day at the conference, the WAFP hosted a member reception at the Hotel Phillips in Kansas City to give our students the opportunity to socialize and network with residency programs.

Thank you to all those who helped support the 2017 Send a Student Campaign. Because of your generosity, we raised over $27,600 and were able to send 49 students to the National Conference. Please consider donating again for the 2018 campaign and help us to ensure a strong future workforce in family medicine.

The call for dedicated, caring family doctors in Wisconsin is more important now than ever before as there are growing concerns about the future workforce. In an effort to engage and educate medical students about the opportunities in family medicine, the WAFP-Foundation is aiming to send 50 students to the 2018 National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students.
